At Happy Dog Resort, we know that your furry friend is more than just a pet—they’re family–and trust us when we say we are Dog Moms and Dog Dads, too!! That’s why we’ve created a home-away-from-home where dogs can play, relax, and enjoy endless tail wags while you’re away. Whether it’s your pup’s first time lodging or they’re a seasoned guest, a little preparation can ensure a smooth and happy stay. Follow this step-by-step guide to make your dog’s vacation with us a wonderful experience!

Step 1: Ensure Vaccinations & Health Are Up to Date

Your dog’s health and safety are our top priority. To keep all our furry guests safe, we require up-to-date vaccinations, including rabies, distemper, and Bordetella (kennel cough), in addition to a negative intestinal parasites screen test. Be sure to check with your vet and provide us with any necessary records before your dog’s stay to bring with you, or you may upload them to the client portal. If you cannot get into your vet to update these items, we can provide vaccines and intestinal parasite screening tests upon arrival.

Step 2: Schedule a Meet-and-Greet– A Tour for you, and an Evaluation for your Pup.

We want every dog to feel comfortable at Happy Dog Resort, so we encourage YOU to visit us before your pup’s stay. A tour of our resort allows you to meet the humans your dog will be with, become familiar with the space, learn how to log onto the portal to view the cameras, and explore the cozy suites and exciting play areas. For first-time guests, we require an evaluation session to help your dog get used to the environment before an extended stay; it’s so important that your dog is comfortable here.

Step 3: Pack a Little Piece of Home

To make your pup feel extra cozy during their stay, pack a few familiar items:

  • Food & Treats – We encourage you to bring your dog’s usual food to keep their tummy happy. Treats are always welcome too! Prepackaged into individual meal portions is very helpful to our staff.
  • Favorite Toy or Blanket – A snuggly blanket or a beloved toy can provide comfort and remind your pup of home.
  • Something that smells like home – Your dog’s own bed, favorite blanket, or a shirt you slept in the night before are perfect examples of things to bring for your dog. After a day of play, it’s nice to curl up with the smells of home!
  • Medications & Supplements – If your dog takes any medications, pack them with clear instructions so our team can ensure they stay on schedule.

Step 4: Share Special Care Instructions

You will receive a phone call prior to your dog’s lodging stay with us as a pre-lodging check-in. Every dog is unique, and we want to make sure your pup’s stay is tailored to their needs. Does your dog have a favorite way to play? A quirky habit that makes them feel safe? A special dietary routine? Let us know! We love getting to know each of our guests so we can provide personalized care filled with love and attention.

Step 5: Keep Goodbyes Short, Sweet & Positive

We know saying goodbye can be tough, but dogs are incredibly intuitive and pick up on our emotions. A quick, cheerful farewell reassures your pup that they’re in loving hands. At Happy Dog Resort, our caring team will be there with open arms (and plenty of belly rubs) to welcome them into their home-away-from-home.

Step 6: Let Your Pup Relax After Their Fun-Filled Stay

After an exciting stay filled with playtime, new friends, and plenty of cuddles, your pup might come home a little extra tired—that’s completely normal! In fact, we jokingly call it a “Happy Dog Hangover.” Give them time to rest, provide lots of fresh water, and let them settle back into their routine. If they seem extra sleepy, don’t worry—it just means they had the time of their life!

We Can’t Wait to Welcome Your Pup!

At Happy Dog Resort, we treat every dog like our own, showering them with love, care, and fun. Preparing for their stay ensures they have the best experience possible, and we’re here to help every step of the way. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a visit, give us a call—we can’t wait to welcome your pup into our Happy Dog family!

Your dog’s vacation starts here—where tails wag and hearts are happy!
